About me
The piano has been part of my life since my youth, and I began tuning pianos at an early age. Much of what I learned was self-taught and later deepened through a placement at a piano workshop in Bern. I have been working as a piano tuner in the Bern-Fribourg-Biel area since 1990. It gives me great pleasure to tune pianos and grand pianos so that their owners can once again play with enjoyment and a renewed sense of sound.
I grew up in Bern and Murten. From 1985 to 1989, I studied languages and literature as well as musicology at the University of Fribourg, and received a broad piano education covering classical music, jazz, and popular music.
In addition to piano tuning, I give piano lessons in Bern and offer private tutoring and academic support in other subjects.

Stable Pitch & Optimal Sound Quality
Regular tuning keeps your piano stable and sounding at its best. As a professional piano tuner in Bern, I recommend:
- for frequent players: every 6 months
- for moderate use: once per year is ideal
Standard pitch is A4 = 442 Hz, and lower instruments can be raised to standard pitch in one or two sessions if desired.
Concert Tuning & Historical Instruments
I tune not only modern pianos and grands but also harpsichords and fortepianos.
For concerts, I ensure your instrument is perfectly prepared before the performance.
Previous work includes venues such as:
Piano Transport
For safe and professional piano transport in Bern, I recommend Kompholz Musik AG.

I also offer piano lessons in Bern-Länggasse.

Piano Care Tips – From Your Piano Tuner Bern
Regular tuning
Even if seldom played, a piano should be tuned once or twice a year. New or restored pianos may need tuning every 3–6 months.
Humidity & temperature
The ideal room humidity is 40–50%.
Avoid:
- <30% (risk of cracks in the soundboard)
- >60% (swelling of wood)
Room temperature should stay around 20–22°C.
Dampp-Chaser climate systems can help maintain stability.
Placement
Avoid placing the piano:
- near radiators, fireplaces or heaters
- next to windows or exterior walls
- in direct sunlight
A carpet or piano mat can improve acoustics and reduce vibrations.
Cleaning
- Keys: soft cloth, slightly damp, mild soap only
- Cabinet: microfiber cloth, light cleaning polish if needed
- Interior: only by a professional
Protection
Use a dust cover when the piano is not played for long periods.
Avoid food near the instrument.
Professional maintenance
Every 1–2 years, a technician should check:
- hammers
- dampers
- action parts
- pedal mechanism
If the tone becomes too bright or too dull, hammer voicing (intonation) may be required.
Grand piano care
Avoid leaving the lid open for long periods and ensure wheels are locked.
